Hindu Pilgrimages / Temples:
Hinduism is one of the oldest religions in the
world and is practices by over 800 million people
in India. There are many holy cities, including
Varanasi, Haridwar, Ayodhya, Mathura, Dwarika,
Kanchipuram and Ujjain which are known as the 'Tirthas'
- that enable people to cross from the world of
earthly suffering to a divine place. Accordingly
Hindu Temples predominate in India, from
Vaishnodevi and Kahivishvanath to Jagannath Puri
and Madurai's Sri Meenakshi, each devoted to one
of the many Hindu gods. Visiting them allows you
to experience the fabric of everyday life in
India.
Sikh Pilgrimages / Guruduaras:
Sikhs worship in temples known as gurudwaras and
communal meals are a feature of the temple
activities.
Sikhism doesn't recognize any caste of
class, so everyone becomes involved in
ceremonies. The famous Golden Temple in
Amritsar, Punjab, is the paragon of Sikh
Temples. This is the holiest of all Sikh
Temples. This shrine of Sikhism has a
unique blend of Hindu and Muslim styles of
architecture. Anandpur Sahib also in Punjab, was
the heart of the recent 300 years of the birth of
Sikhism celebrations. As and egalitarian religion
everyone is welcome to enter the gurudwaras and
this is a great way to fully appreciate the
culture of the Sikh society.
Buddhist Pilgrimages:
Buddhism is of great importance in India because
it has its birth here. The founder Siddhartha
Gautama or Buddha - the enlightened, was born in Lumbini in India and the current Tibetan Buddhist
leader - The Dalai Lama has his abode in McLoed
Ganj in North India. Indian Buddhist temples are
mostly found on the slopes of the Himalayas in
Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh and Zonskor and Sikkim.
They provide the perfect backdrop to learn and
experience Buddhist philosophy and morality. |
